New experimental research for SME innovation and growth policy (Innovation Growth Lab)
Join us for two online events that will showcase results from some of the latest randomised controlled trials (RCTs) aimed at promoting innovation and boosting productivity among SMEs. IGL has supported these trials under the European Commission’s INNOSUP-06-2018 programme and the UK’s Business Basics Programme, so we are delighted to be able to share the results with you. At the sessions, we will discuss what the projects tested, what impacts they found, and what we can learn from their results.

On 6 July, Nicola Doppio from the Trentino Innovation Hub will discuss the findings from their initiative to facilitate design sprints with SMEs across seven countries across Europe.

On 6 July, Doug Scott from Start and Grow UK will present the results of two recent experiments that tested the use of facilitated training programmes to promote the adoption of new technologies and management practices among SMEs in the UK.

On 6 July, Iuliana Nichersu from Steinbeis Europa Zentrum will discuss the use of innovation audits to promote social innovation among SMEs, in another experiment conducted in several countries across Europe.
Scientific approach to decision-making
On 13 July, Professor Elena Novelli from the Bayes Business School (at City, University of London) will discuss the impacts from training microbusiness owners in London to use a scientific approach to making business decisions.
Social Innovation Matched Crowdfunding (SIM Crowd)
On 13 July, Tess Landon from the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) will discuss the results of an experiment testing ways to increase the availability of crowdfunding, as well as other ongoing experiments to improve access to funding for start-ups.
Operational Coaching for SME managers
On 13 July, Ruth Phillips from Notion Ltd will present the findings from a test of an online training programme for SME managers, promoting the use of coaching behaviours at work.
